The Associate in Arts in Sociology for Transfer degree is designed to acquaint students with tools to understand the functioning of the society in which they live. The degree offers students a broad and multicultural perspective of the world around them and also provides them with a solid foundation for further study in sociology. Sociology can assist in occupations such as teaching, social work, drug and alcohol counseling, police work, probation aides, juvenile hall counseling, medical work, international business, and any other occupation that places you in contact with people of diverse backgrounds. The Associate in Arts in Sociology for Transfer degree is designed for students who plan to complete a bachelor's degree in a similar major at a CSU campus. To earn the Associate in Arts in Sociology for Transfer degree, students must complete the following requirements: To earn the Associate in Arts in Sociology for Transfer, students must complete at least 60 required semester units of CSU-transferable coursework, including the Cal-GETC requirements, and at least 19 units within the major. Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, including grades of C (or 'P') or higher in each course taken to fulfill the major. Local graduation requirements are not required for the transfer degree. Students should consult with a counselor for more information on transfer requirements and university admission.


Upon completion of the program, students will:

Emphasis will be given to North American paleogeography and tectonics. Laboratory activities use rocks, fossils, geologic maps and cross sections to interpret ancient environments, tectonic settings and geologic history.
