This course is a descriptive introduction to the origin, evolution, and current state of the solar system. The topics in this course include the history of astronomy; the Sun and its role within the solar system; the origins and characteristics of planets, satellites, ring systems, dwarf planets, comets, asteroids, and other interplanetary debris; and Kepler's laws of planetary motion. An emphasis will be placed on the observational evidence used by cosmologists to help develop their theories. A study of the types of stars, including the sun, binary stars, variable stars, white dwarfs, neutron stars is included.
