The Certificate of Achievement in Community Outreach, Social Justice, and Health will prepare students with the skills and knowledge to enter the public health field as a Community Health Worker. This 11-unit certificate program will educate and empower students to successfully serve in community-involved, equity-driven health professions with the skills and core knowledge of community health practice. Students will understand root causes of community health issues and health disparities, assess the health needs of the diverse populations they serve, and develop and implement equity-driven, community-involved health education activities. Students will gain in-field experience with local health organizations to implement the concepts and best practices they have learned through the program.
- 1. Demonstrate knowledge of community health and outreach terminology, key concepts, and best practices through research, written assignments, oral presentations, and program development.
- 2. Use expertise of social determinants of health and health equity practices to implement an equity-minded approach to community outreach and education.
- 3. Demonstrate knowledge of community health practices to work effectively with local health organizations on health education and outreach efforts.
